I have not been tagged to do this but rarely am I ever tagged, instead I am just going to do it because I like tags and thought this one looked fun. I haven’t seen any blog posts about this tag yet, but I have seen a handful of youtube videos so I thought I could still do this one. So, let’s dive in and have a little chat about my makeup collection.
1. How long have you been collecting makeup?
I would say since I really started wearing makeup which was around the age of fifteen, so at this point in time that’s been eleven years which is kind of crazy for me to think about.
2. What kind of collection do you have? Minimal, utilitarian, aesthetic, historical, etc.
Excessive and distracted, is that a type? My collection size has shrunk over the years but it’s nowhere near minimal or utilitarian. I really don’t think I have a ‘type’ of collection.
3. Are you a completionist?
I have been in the past but I try really hard to break that, every so often it creeps back though, like with those Colourpop nine pan palettes. I have weeded out the ones that I don’t like but for a minute there I had to have them all and I still have a pretty decent selection of them. So, sometimes?
4. How do you store/organize your collection?
I have Ikea Alex drawers as a desk and I use three of those drawers currently for makeup. One for face stuff, one for lips and one for eyes, within each drawer I have things sorted by type of product and all extra product that I am not current using in my rotation is tucked away in my bathroom for future use.
5. What is your favorite thing about your collection?
That I am finally getting to the point where I like everything that I own, at one point I would buy so much and hoard everything even if I hated it, now I’m working on making more thoughtful purchases and not just holding on to things.I also have found that I can donate and resell gently used and unused makeup, so that has been a huge help in this process.
6. What is your least favorite thing about/something to improve your collection?
I really need to improve on my usage of all my makeup and my rotation of it, so far I am not great at rotating and I find that nothing gets used nearly as much as I would like it to.
7. What is the biggest category of your collection?
It’s either eyeshadow palettes or lip gloss, I have a lot of both and really too much of both.
8. What is the smallest category of your collection?
Probably face powder, I don’t own a lot because I know it goes on for a while and I don’t try very many types of powder, I’m not sure why but it’s just not my thing.
9. Do you have a “holy grail” in your collection?
I do have a few things that I would consider holy grail status and one of them is a powder, strangely enough. The It Cosmetics pressed powder is one of my favorites, I love it!
10. Do you ever wish your collection was bigger/smaller or is it complete?
I think my collection is never going to be complete, I think I will always fluctuate with it, new releases mean near things that I want to try and I will finish up products or realize that I simply don’t like them anymore. Sometimes I do wish my collection was a little bit smaller but I think I’m working towards that now.
11. How often do you declutter makeup in your collection?
I get rid of things as I realize that I don’t like them, but typically I would say I do a deep declutter two or three times a year at most, just to get a really good look at everything that I am currently holding onto.
12. Do you ever get envious seeing other people’s makeup collections?
Sometimes, but usually, it’s because of the organization of things. I really wish I had a little bit more space, or less stuff, so I could organize everything exactly the way that I want it to.
13. Who on YouTube has the best makeup collection video?
I have no idea, I don’t watch a ton of collection videos anymore and nothing, in particular, is coming to mind at the moment.
14. What’s some advice you’d give to a future makeup collector?
Do you, you don’t have to participate in every trend and if you don’t like something then don’t hold onto it, the money has been spent and you tried so there is no use in holding onto something you are never going to use again.
And that is my makeup collection tag, I thought this one was fun and interesting, it’s unlike other tags that I’ve seen. I also think it was fun to take a further look into my collection. The last thing I want to mention is that I want to tag anyone who finds this interesting and if you do it, let me know so I can go read your answers as well.
Are you happy with your current makeup collection?
