Dupe: NYX vs. Dose Of Colors

This month I am focused on finding out if these two liquid lipsticks are dupes, once again I am putting two liquid lipsticks in a battle to find out how close they are. Doing so many liquid lipsticks makes me really want to revive my liquid lipstick battle, but alas, I think I am one of the few who are still into liquid lipsticks. Maybe I’m just being dramatic. Anyway, I am putting up a Dose of Colors liquid lip against an NYX to find out if you need to splurge or save.

In one corner is a NYX Lip Lingerie in the shade Bedtime Flirt, this one will run you $7.00 and comes with 0.13oz of product, which means a full ounce will cost you roughly $53.85

In the other corner, we have the Dose of Colors Liquid Lipstick in the shade Truffle, this will run you $18.00 and comes with 0.16oz of product, which means a full ounce would cost you roughly $112.50, so that is a pretty decent price difference per ounce.

I know the packaging is never a dupe but I want to take a moment to talk about the packaging starting with the NYX. The NYX tube is rather simple, tall, skinny and glossy, it isn’t anything exciting but it is just lip gloss so I am not super bothered by that as if feels fairly sturdy and nice. The applicator is a thin kind of stick-like sponge applicator, it’s thin and it works fine though I do find it a tiny bit more difficult than your average doe foot.

The Dose of colors packaging is shorter and has a matte finish to it, it is also really simple and while I don’t love the matte texture, I think this feels rather nice and sturdy. I don’t know what is but I quite like it. And this one has your standard doe foot applicator which I can appreciate, it’s really easy to use and I’m happy with it.

Now, let’s talk about what really matters when it comes to products being dupes, the shade, and the formula. Let’s start with the shade since I have some swatched here and clearly, these two aren’t identical when swatched, though they are very similar. The NYX on the left is just a touch darker when swatched. However, as you will see below, when it is applied to the lips I can’t really tell the difference so these two might be almost exact color dupes.

See, these two look basically the same. I believe the NYX is on the top and the Dose of Colors is on the bottom.

Now, as for the formula and the wear, I do think these differ a tiny bit but not enough to really need both. I do think that the Dose of Colors is a little less drying but in turn, I also think that it has a little bit less last power, which I prefer because I always prefer things being comfortable.

So I do not think that you need to own both of these, these are basically the same lipstick and while I say that I prefer the Dose of Colors a little bit, I would save on this one. I just happen to already own both but if I didn’t, I would just go for the cheaper of the two as I don’t think the Dose of colors is really that worth it.

What’s your favorite liquid lipstick?
